Michi Trota, Fire Spinner

I began playing with poi on a whim during college in Boston and immediately fell in love with how the art form allows the performer to utilize grace, power and technical skill in movement. However, it wasn’t until nearly a decade later that I moved to Chicago, discovered the Chicago Fire Tribe and became part of a supportive community in which I finally found the opportunity to learn fire spinning. I haven’t looked back since.

Since lighting up my first set of fire poi, my repertoire has quickly expanded to include a variety of tools, including poi, staff, fans and sword. I’m a regular performer  and community/event organizer within the Chicago fire performance community, currently serving as Board Member and Communications Liaison/Event Coordinator for the Chicago Full Moon Jams. I have collaborated with several performers and troupes, including Pyrotechniq, Barefoot Hawaiian and Fire for Hire. Although fire is my primary medium, I also spin with non-burning tools, including flags, comet-tail poi and both LED poi and staff. I’ve performed at a wide range of events, including the annual Northalsted Street Halloween parade in Chicago, the Chicago Freakeasy, Resonate, charity fundraisers, entertainment venues, weddings and other private events.

I consider it a pleasure and a privilege to share the art of fire performance anytime, anywhere.
